Pupils in Po Leung Kuk Tin Ka Ping Primary School are given ample opportunities to learn English in a meaningful way so that they can carry out acts of purposeful communication and use the language in real life situations. Our teachers adopt a variety of teaching approaches to cater for students of various abilities and learning styles, such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Multi-modal elements and diversified pedagogical approaches help build up an English-rich environment.

2024-2025 English Work Plans
1. Inter-class Paper Tower Challenge
Collaborating with and STEAM, P.5 students will learn how to write a procedural text, including steps involved, materials and tools used, and use connectives to show the sequence. One unit about procedural text from P.5 English book is chosen (Fun with making things). Students will plan and work collaboratively to build the tallest paper tower in the challenge. They are required to write a procedural text to introduce their design during the challenge. The activity aims to nurture the following priority values and attitudes:
Perseverance : Encourage students to set a goal and pursue it.
Commitment : Encourage students to strive for their best and actively consider solution and improvement.
Unity : (23/24 APASO) Encourage students to work collaboratively towards a goal and embrace diversity.
National Education : Admire towers of great renown in China and other countries.
Media and Information Literacy : Extract and organise information, create and present new ideas.
2. World Cultures Week
By introducing the festivals in the assembly and following up with hands-on activities, the school helps students develop a deeper appreciation for the diverse cultural celebrations in their community, for example cross-cultural understanding, respect, national identity, unity and global awareness among the students. By collaborating with different departments like Chinese, Art, Music, and P.E. on these cultural celebrations, the school can provide opportunities for students to develop comprehensive skills such as creativity, communication and teamwork, while also promoting a diverse and inclusive campus environment. Teachers introduce upcoming festivals to students during the morning assembly, providing an overview of the festival and sharing its history, traditions, and cultural significance. During that week, the school arranges various engaging activities for students. These may include making crafts, making musical instruments, dancing, having a sports competition or writing red banners. The suggested festivals are as follows:
Semester 1:
i. Diwali (October)—India: collaborated with Art, students will design their own Rangoli picture or dance during lunch recess.
ii. Thanksgiving (November)—America: collaborated with Music, students will make musical instruments and sang a song with it.
Semester 2:
i. Lunar New Year (January)—China: collaborated with Chinese, students will have create their red banners at lunch recess.
ii. Eid al-Fitr (March)—Muslim-majority countries: students can design and decorate colorful greeting cards to give to family and friends.
Semester 3:
i. Easter (April)—Western World : collaborated with P.E., students can join a sports activity.
ii. Dragon Boat Festival (May)—China: collaborated with P.E., students are invited to join a sports activity in the hall.
3. Fun Room Fun
Our Fun Room activities provide a context for our students to learn English. It is open during Wednesday lunch recess for students. Students can play board games, watch clips, chat or play mini games with Mrs Sengupta or English Gurus. Players and the leaders English Gurus engage in conversations, reading instructions and discussing strategies, all of which require active language use. They are encouraged to carry out communication and social interaction in English among players outside the classroom
2024-2025 English Regular Plans
1. AI Book Cover Design
One chapter about book review from P.6 English book is chosen. Students will design book covers by using AI. We will collaborate with Computer Studies. Students will learn how to input key modifiers on AI and produce a book cover relevant to the book. The book content words on the book cover include the following values:
Persistence- Encourage students to set a goal and work on it.
Respect- Encourage students to embrace opinions of others.
Media and Information Literacy Series- Mold students' positive and responsible attitudes when using the information from the internet
2. Gifted education for all
To cater for the needs of high English ability students, we will carry out language arts activities for P.1, P.2, P.3, P.4, P.5 and P.6 students respectively. The goal of the activities is to help students find out their own potentials and stretch their potentials, and thus enhance self-confidence.
3. Halloween Day
To arouse students’ interest in learning English and provide opportunities for them to learn more about the western culture. Halloween is the theme of day. A variety of English activities regarding Halloween will be carried out so that students can experience the special day while having a fun time bonding with their schoolmates and teachers.
4. English Fun Fair
In order to offer opportunities for students to make use of different learning strategies and to show appreciation to others, English Fun Fair is held. P.6 students make game booths for P.1-5 students during English lessons using the target learning strategies: mind mapping, thinking skills, both sides thinking, timeline, other people’s point of view. They design, make and host the game booth at the English Fun Fair. P.1-5 students, on the other hand, are asked to write a thank-you card or letter to appreciate the P.6 helps or draw a poster to promote this event.
